Fairly early on – probably in late 1980 – I started to write a Dungeon game in Level II BASIC, and it was called “Dungeon of the Sorceror”. Here’s the splash screen:
You could explore a dungeon with seventy-five rooms on three levels, with about twenty-five kinds of monsters, various spells, and treasure to seek. The rendering was kind of slow, but there were ways of injecting some assembly language code into a BASIC program, so I rewrote the key rendering pieces in Z-80 assembly, and carried on.
You can download the BASIC version, imaginatively named DUNGEON/BAS, from the Home page.
